英语里的情态动词主要有:can(could),may(might),must,shall,will,would,need,dare,should,oughtto。
⒈can和could
whalescannotliveonland.
beforeliberationfewworkerscouldsupporttheirfamilies.
*beableto与can、could的异同:
hewillbeabletogowithusthisafternoon.
ihaven’tbeenabletoseethedifferenceyet.
hethoughtiwouldbeabletodotheworkwell.
thesickmanwassoonabletostandup.
wewereabletogettherebeforethemeetingbegan.
anybodywhowantstotrycanbesuccessful.
scotlandcanbeverywarminseptember.
☆can/couldiuseyourpen?
yes,youcan.(回答时不能说成could)
cannot…too… 越…越好
cannotbut 不得不
youcannotbetoocareful.
icannotbutdoso.
youwerestupidtogoskiingthere.youcouldhavebrokenyourleg.
----istayedatahotelwhileinnewyork.
----oh,didyou?youcouldhavestayedwithjane.

hemay/mightcome.you’dbetterstayhereforamoment.
(iamnotsurewhetherhe’llreallycome.)
imay/mightnotbebackfordinner.
(i’mnotsurewhetheri’llbeback.)

ireallymuststopsmoking.
ihavetostopsmoking.

donothaveto=don’thaveto“不必”

◆must用于疑问句时,肯定回答用must,否定回答用neednot或don’thave/needto
mustihandinmypapernow?
yes,youmust.(no,youneedn’t.或no,youdon’thaveto.)
hemustworkhardatenglish,mustn’the?

⒏oughtto

thepictureexhibitionboredmetodeath;iwishihadnotgonetoit.
i’dratheryoupostedtheletterrightaway.
(3)由连接词incase,sothat,unless,lest,forfearthat引起的状语从句中,谓语动词要用虚拟形式,即should(might,would)+动词原形,
sheputablanketoverthebabyforfearthatheshouldcatchcold.
thebadmanwasputinthesoft-paddedcelllestheinjurehimself.
表示与现在事实相反:if+从句主语+动词的过去式…,主语+should/would/could/might+动词原形…(be一般用were)
表示与过去事实相反:if+从句主语+had+过去分词…,主语+should/would/could/might+have+过去分词…
ifithadnotbeenforhishelp(=butforhishelp),wewouldnothavesucceeded.
sheoftenlaughsspontaneously,andhergoodhumorbreaksoutasbrightlyasifitwereapartofthesunshineabove.
theytalkedasiftheyhadbeenfriendsforyears.
ifiwereinamovie,thenitwouldbeabouttimethatiburiedmyheadinmyhandsforacry.
itisessentialthatheshouldbepreparedforthis.
itisessentialforhimtobepreparedforthis.
thisistheirresolutionthatextra-curriculumactivitiesbemadepartoftheirschoollife.
themotionthattheremarkofthelastspeakerbeexpungedfromtherecord.
ifyou thatlatemovielastnight,youwouldn’tbesosleepy.
a.haven’twatchedb.didn’twatch
c.hadn’twatchedd.wouldn’thavewatched答案选c。
manydeadwouldnowbealiveiftheyhavenotattemptedtoreturnforsomething.
hadpaulreceivedsixmorevotesinthelastelection,hewouldbeourchairmannow.
iwouldhavegonetovisithiminthehospitalhaditbeenatallpossible,butiwasfullyoccupiedthewholeoflastweek.
yourmathinstructorwouldhavebeenhappytogiveyouamake-upexaminationhadyougoneandexplainedthatyourparentswereillatthetime.
theleadershipoftheparty,wecouldnotbelivingahappytoday.=iftherehadn’tbeentheleadershipoftheparty,wecouldnotbelivingahappytoday.
a.inspiteof b.butfor c.becauseof d.asfor答案选b。
butthatshewasafraid,shewouldhavesaidno.
shelistenedcarefullyinorderthatshemightdiscoverexactlywhathewanted.=ifshelistenedcarefully,shemightdiscoverexactlywhathewanted.
ifonlyihadmoremoney,icouldbuyacar.
theforeignteacherspokeslowlyincasewemisunderstoodhim.
caremustbetakeninusingthismethodlestoverflowshouldoccur.
ithoughtthechildrenwhenwereturnedhome,buttheywerestillawake.
a.weresleepingb.wouldbesleepingc.hadbeensleepingd.wouldsleep选择b。
amorecarefulpersonwouldnothavemadesomanymistakes.共
alessconscientiousmanwouldn?ˉthavetriedsohardtogetthisjobdone.
(5)·?′ê?ìó?
